What Does It Mean Being Natural

What does It Mean Being  Natural

So I was sharing my facebook page a couple of days ago with some friends. It was great but of course you do get those who aren't in support of what you do.

I thought to myself what does it mean being natural. These are some questions I think I need to clear out .I have done all the research I needed to do to be giving you a well informed answer based on my opinion and on what I believe is natural to me.

A lot of scholars have put in a lot of information as to why African women relax and straighten their hair. The term relaxed means to perm .The word perm is derived from the term permanent wave.

This means applying a certain cream and or thick white base to the hair. This base contains a strong chemical that penetrates through the curly hair making it softer and turns out to be straight. A very dangerous toxic chemical is added in some of these mixtures that when applied to the hair for a few hours longer it will burn your scalp leaving a bald patch. Some of these chemicals contain a very high pH which means they perform better and faster but initially harm your entire curl pattern and scalp. According to Chris Rocks documentary film on “Bad Hair” many women have become aware of the dangers of what these chemicals do put many industries continue to have a large market share.

This is the very same reason why I stopped using chemicals in my hair.On numerous occasions I would get a  burnt and  damaged  scalp, experience breakage and never any good results with length.I am not here to put anybody out of business. This is just simply my preference and I have a very solid reason as to why.Even when I had a damaged scalp I would still find myself perming my hair,I mean I literally had no hair.At this point I can boldly say that society has such a big influence on people on what they wear and what your hair should look like. Now you can call be deviant if you would like but think about it,is it worth all the pain.

This is what happens when you have that perm in there for too long
I am sure a number of people have experienced something like this in their life time.I know I have.

So if I want to go ahead and wear braids or put on a weave in my hair of course I will. These are all protective styles that you can wear to cover your own hair from the cold especially in the winter when its snowing or when your just simply tired of dealing with your hair. Dont go around talking as if your uninformed go out there and attain the required information before you judge other natural people out there.

Anyway on a great note my hair is growing strong and healthy. 9months
Happy Holidays!!

Moisturising Dry Hair Treatment

Apple Cider Vinegar and Mayonnaise, Egg and Honey Conditioner

So thought I would share some of the great ways to deal with dryness with your hair.I know I do experience a lot of it,so I did some really good research and thought I would share. There are so many ways you can deal with dryness I will try out more and share them with you too.I will probably do a tutorial on my  youtube channel upon request.
I tried out the Apple Cider Vinegar and Mayonnaise, Egg and Honey Conditioner. This might sound really yucky but it has all the stuff that's healthy for your hair.

This really helps in cleaning out any dirty build up and restores a little bounce back in your curls.
Mayonnaise has lots of  oils in it so this will help with the dryness.Eggs are really high in protein and yes your hair needs protein.I just add honey for a little bit of some shine and WALA!!!!! your curls are back looking and feeling really moisturised.I decided to try out the Bantu knots as a style and it turned out pretty AWESOME.

So for this I first washed my hair :
Take a big glass of water and at least half a cup of Apple cider Vinegar mix together and use this as a shampoo to wash your hair.
Then rinse off.

Secondly you will need :

  1. A bowl
  2. 2 eggs
  3. 6 table spoons of Mayo
  4. A table spoon of honey

  • Then whisk all the ingredients together until you get a nice thick mixture. Then apply sparingly to your entire head .
  • Cover with a salon plastic cap and let it sit for at least 45mins or more depending how dry your hair is.
  • Then wash it all off and let it dry I mean air dry and style as desired.

You can add some of your oils to seal in moisture like I usually do.I like to think of my hair like any human body it needs proper nutrition to be healthy same thing with your hair.Like honestly this is a great way to condition your hair its really convenient and cost effective too especially if your a student like me,you pretty much have all these ingredients in your kitchen.

So thought I would upload some pics of what it turned out to look like

I had such awesome definition
Any questions I would be happy to answer. I'm really enjoying my journey.Try this out you will pleased with the results,I know I was.

My Product Review

My Product Review

Hi Everyone,

So I KNOW its been a while since I posted.Forgive me but you know how them books can just take over.haha

Anyway I'm finally seeing more and more growth with my hair. I'm super excited I'm now in my  7th month of being natural.I currently do have braids in my hair as a protective style this fall but I will be bringing them down after a few months to let my hair breathe for a bit.
A lot of people have been asking me about the products I use in my hair.Let me break it down for you I AM A PRODUCT JUNKIE!!!..Seriously  I always want to try something new and different.Although,I do have some staple products I use on a regular basis.I pretty much keep it simple.Funny thing is a buy something new and after a few weeks never use it again haha. So I'm  trying on just getting rid of what I currently have.

Ladies the sooner you find out your hair type the better and much easier it will be for you to find what works for you.
Some of the things you might want to keep away from in your products are  Sulphates and Petroleum.Sulphates will just dry your hair out and petroleum will just sit on you scalp and give it no room for growth.

These are some of the products that I'm currently using:

  Shampoo

V05 Milk Conditioning Shampoo-Also avoid shampooing your hair too often I only do so once a month  to get rid of all the unwanted build up.Instead I always co-wash 2-3 times a week.

Conditioners
1.As a deep conditioner- I use Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner (I could promise a lot of naturals use this too) ,leaves your hair clean and soft and very inexpensive.
2. One and Only Argan Oil Repair Moisture Conditioner-this stuff smells AWESOME I can easily run my hands through it without using my wide tooth comb.

2.Leave in conditioner-Silk Elements Leave In conditioner it always makes my tiny curls pop and its not too heavy.

Daily Moisturisers I basically use  oils
1.*African Shea butter 100% natural-this really makes my hair grow,it gives moisture from your roots to your tips and protects especially in the winter . Helps with dryness. This was highly recommended to me by a friend.

2.Extra Virgin Olive oil (Evoo) -Yes you will find this in your kitchen I usually use this to seal moisture right after my co-wash.

Styling Products
1.One and Only Argan Oil Curl Cream -this stuff works my curls it gives them great definition
2. Ecostyler Gel -I live with this stuff it leaves no flakes and it keeps my hair soft. This stuff is my survival kit on some of those early morning lectures.

Where to find these products:
Suave-Any local store Food Basics going for $0.99
Silk Elements,One and Only Argan Oil Conditioner-Sallys
Extra Virgin Olive Oil-You can get that in any grocery store.

Now I'm not saying all this will guarantee you big results but this is what I do for my hair. Its all about exploring what YOUR hair needs and what works for YOU.

Hope this helps guys

I'm finally now on youtube you can also watch my hair journey video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MK2J7BhzUwo&feature=plcp

MY NATURAL HAIR JOURNEY BEGINS

Hello Everyone.

I'm not much of a writer but I really wanted to encourage other young women out there.I recently took a bold step in becoming natural that means accepting myself for who I Am.
I just got to that stage in my life were I thought for a minute who exactly am I.A question of identity.

Beneath all the weaves and perms there definitely was a different person.I started relaxing my hair at a young age if I'm not mistaken, I think I started when I was 8years old.So since then pretty much my whole entire life time I depended on relaxers to do the straightening of my hair.My hair never grew the longest  it got was to my neck and then breakage would take its toll.Looking back I've discovered all the burns and uncomfortable feelings I got in my scalp were not worth all the trouble.Thats when I just got so tired of spending money, time and effort on things that never produced results.

I had just about enough I just couldn't wait any longer I went in for the B.C.(Big Chop) on March 3 2012.I was sooo excited beyond the roof.

                                                                   After my B.C

This is right after my B.C.

I was a little bit sceptical and didn't think short hair would look great on me.Ladies don't let anyone lie to you.You were born beautiful that's how God created you. Dont ever make any excuses as to why you shouldn't be who YOU ARE.Remember your not pleasing any man or woman for coming out natural. Now I'm not saying there wont be haters but the biggest hater is yourself.I realised that with myself.Everyone loved my short hair.I was the only one who thought otherwise and I had to come out of that shell.

I love my hair its really super kinky curly.I have a mixture of 4b and 4c hair.I must admit I had no idea my hair could have different textures. I'm discovering myself and who I really was created to be.Society should never have the last say of who you should be.Your different, unique and a blessing in the eyes of many people.I encourage you today live your life for who your meant to be and all those rotten apples you thought were your friends will fall out of your basket. But that doesn't matter count your blessings and a good friend or a special somebody will come around your way and they'll love you because your comfortable with yourself it doesn't matter if your pink, black, red, brown or yellow like myself we are all one creation.
Embrace those kinky curly coils its apart of who you are.

This is me at two months

This is me now at 5months rocking that TWA (Tieenie Weenie Afro).

Be creative with your hair even in its short state.Yes I know shrinkage can be a major bore. But its all apart of the journey.Dont give up sometimes growth can take a little bit longer but dont give up give your hair a chance.Visit websites that help and encourage your journey.
